A basic prerequisite is a strong background in mathematics/statistics. If you don't have a specialist degree in one of these areas, this does not automatically exclude you. We realise that training in other quantitative disciplines (e.g. econometrics, engineering, physics, and computer science) usually involves a large amount of exposure to mathematics/statistics.
The most important thing is that you are technically minded, you enjoy playing with and thinking about numbers, and you have a strong work ethic. We like to think that clever people can learn if they apply themselves!
Some interest in sports would be a positive but it is not essential; we will consider the bigger picture. It may be that you have other relevant knowledge, such as an understanding of financial markets and trading concepts.
